Came across this online petition started by a fan to gather signatures in support of a recording regarding the recent production of Transport Group Theatre Company's "Once Upon a Mattress" starring Jackie Hoffman and John "Lypsinka" Epperson: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/record-mattress - they started a Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/recordmattress/?fref=ts Might be a fun thing to see what impact it might make ... it was a fun production!

I saw this production first in concert then at the Abrons. I loved it! Sad to hear the news that it's not being made into an original cast recording. I thought Jackie Hoffman was superb as Winifred! Thanks for letting us know. I just signed!

I didn't get to the Abrons to see this; hope it can transfer to an Off-B'way theater soon.

Online petitions have never garnered a cast recording because they are just signatures, not the funds required to produce and distribute the recording.

Crowdfunding is the only way stuff like this can happen, I suppose, if no other investor is interested.

I think of lending my signature not as contributing funds but to show my support for those who are trying to persuade the ones who would be raising (or supplying) the funds. Not to mention sending a message to the cast and crew that I believe there should be a cast recording. Is that such a bad thing? I'm going to sign, too.

It's not necessarily bad, no, but it is futile.

Yet we get petitions for cast recordings once a week! People will never learn. Futile indeed.
