It's really not alarmist at all. Most people aren't used to cabs, but even WITHOUT theatre traffic, there's ALWAYS traffic going by the park, and you're going to end up going near there at some point to get over to Park. And beyond that, if Feinstein's stops service at 8:15, how EXACTLY could one make the minimum if that's when you get there? And I've been to Birdland MANY times, their shows NEVER start precisely on time, I've never gotten out of there less than 10 minutes late. It's not alarmist, it's true, it would be EXTREMELY unwise to attempt doing both. Feinstein's suggests a time to get there for a reason, and the time they suggest getting there is when Kate's gig BEGINS.
Hate to say it, but it really would be a stupid thing to attempt. But if anyone does it successfully, congratulations, I would've loved to, but I refuse to risk missing Orfeh's performance because of the many, many things that could go wrong and cause one to be late in transit, and that would absolutely happen to ME. :-P If anyone manages to work doing both though, mad props!!
