I was thinking that Amy Ryan or Julianne Moore could also work as Barbara.
I know a lot of people don't like her, but I think Ellen Page would be the most ideal choice for Jean.
Who doesn't like Ellen Page? She's amazing!
Jean is supposed to be 14.
Ellen Page, while wonderful, is much too old for the part.
I don't know, I think Ellen Page could pull it off, she doesn't look THAT old. :) Besides, if we have people who are 25-27 playing 16-17 year olds, I don't think Ellen Page would be too old.
The producers had the cajones to take the risk of bringing the show to Broadway without TV/Movie stars. And, that paid off big time for them. Well, I'd like to see that continue with the movie. I'll bet Tracy Letts' father, Dennis would have wanted it that way.
My vote is to bring the original cast to the screen. If Anna Shapiro isn't the right director for movies, then maybe Jason Reitman (JUNO, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING).
Amen Brook! I love this cast. They are brilliant. Deanna Dunagan and Amy Morton are particularly excellent as is Rondi Reed. I think they should take the chance and put it on the screen with the original cast. They were the ones who made it popular in the first place.
When watching this play yesterday I wondered how long it would take to be adapted to screen.
Two of the actresses reminded me of Allison Janney so I agree she would be great in this movie.
The actress who played Jean (sorry I don't have my playbill on me - Molly ?)appeared to be about the same age as Ellen Page so I think she could easily play it on film.
Jaystarr - please PM me and tell me about Toni C. I enjoy her performances, but agree that she is a bit nasty. When I was working at a music store in Sydney she came in and was very rude.
I will post a review soon of this play - oh interesting to note - Calista Flockhart was sitting behind me yesterday. Maybe sizing it up to see if there was a part for her lol.
