Our Dear Dead Drug Lord — Page 2

I previously commented on another thread (or maybe started a thread?) about scary shows...well, this certainly can fall under that label! Even though it wasn't jump out of your skin scary, it was creepy and had me holding my breath. I thought the ending was very interesting and definitely made me think in a way that a production hasn't made me think since I saw Oklahoma! at St. Ann's. Very very well done. Also: I was a little distracted because one actor reminded me of Alison Luff and I thought I recognized the other from We Are The Tigers but I was wrong.

Saw it this afternoon.

God, I loved this show. From every production element to the performances to the razor sharp direction, this really is a perfect storm of some fine work coming together to create something truly worth seeing. That being said, I believe the audience was expecting something for cheap laughs. This show never goes there. When they play the honesty of the situation, the humor is where it needs to be and the suspense churns. Thought it was brilliant work all around. This *all* being said, I do not think this is everyone's cup of tea. It very much works and sounds like a lot of these new age, magical realism plays that always have one foot in reality and the other in suspension. I'm not sure I did a very good job of articulating that. But if you're torn, I'd give it a go. It will at least be spooky.
