Our House: The Madness Musical

When I was in London a few years back, I had the priviledge of seeing "Our House". I have been unable to find either region 1 DVD's of the show (I found region 2) or who owns the rights to it, and subsequently where I can get a copy of the script/book. If anyone knows answers to those questions let me know. Thanks!

re: Our House: The Madness Musical

It's sadly not available on Region 1 DVD and it's doubtful it ever will be. I'm not entirely sure who owns the rights, but the most prominant producers were the TV production company Tiger Aspect - you could try sending them a quesiton via their website. The book was written by Tim Firth, who's website is at http://www.timfirth.com

PS Rumours are that the show start a UK tour in the next year, so if you ever want another excuse to visit the UK... re: Our House: The Madness Musical

And why did they put that insane laughter track on it? It's the only flaw in an otherwise perfect DVD...

As to why it never got aq transfer - were Madness ever big in America (were they ever even small)? The American tourists I sat next to at one performance loved the show

re: Our House: The Madness Musical

I saw this show on a high school theater tour, with about 50 people. There was not ONE person in the group who didn't agree that OUR HOUSE was the best show we saw. We also saw Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Secret Garden, Witches of Eastwick, Mamma Mia, Shakespeare Abridged, Merry Wives of Windsor, and Bombay Dreams. (This was actually on two separate trips- our group goes every other year.) Anyway, every one of us is American, and everyone agreed it was their favorite. Madness was never HUGE in the U.S., but everyone knows and loves the song Our House. And I think it would've lived on its own merits as a show, anyway. Watching it again, it's just such an original piece, and the actors were phenomenal, and the way the story was done was so great compared to some songbook musicals. Plus, the music just SO reflected the characters and story. I loved it so much that the laugh track didn't even bother me!b Although I did notice it's weirdness at a few points. I loooooooooove this show.

re: Our House: The Madness Musical

Kinda spoiler -ish

The changes during the first 'split' and at the end of the first act (when Joe goes from the prison, to dancing on the bridge and then back to prison) are accomplished by doubles. The change during 'The Sun and the Rain' is done with a special costume and never failed to get a round of applause!

re: Our House: The Madness Musical

It is heavily rumoured that the show is to return and embark on a UK tour, lets certainly hope so as this wonderful show deserves to be seen again.

re: Our House: The Madness Musical

I bought a few things from an eBay seller who was the official reseller for Tiger Aspect. I enquired about scripts and she told me that she had scripts available (originals) for £85. Very desirable, but way too expensive.

I never saw this in the theatre - first chance was when the BBC broadcast it. I got the DVD and just love it so much. I really hope they do a tour although I don't know whether it would be the same with different actors...
