Pace New Musicals Presents COLLEGE: The Musical

The Musical Theater program at Pace University has selected COLLEGE: THE MUSICAL for its fully produced reading in January 2008. COLLEGE: THE MUSICAL is written by Drew Fornarola and Scott Elmegreen, and the performances will take place at the Pace University Schaeberle Theater on the 10th Floor of 41 Park Row on January 22-26, at 8pm. The reading will be directed by Amy Rogers, music directed by Robert Meffe, and will feature 12 student performers.

COLLEGE: The Musical is a tuneful and honest look at modern campus life, written by two recent Princeton graduates. The show follows the story of Nathan, a naive but enthusiastic freshman, as he discovers a world of parties, late nights, the occasional class, and of course, more parties.

A hilarious indictment of the student generation and campus apathy, COLLEGE: The Musical looks at the ridiculousness and pure fun of life in a dorm room, as well as offering a more serious reflection on growing up and trying to find oneself amid the chaos and insanity of the college experience. The show premiered at Princeton University in May 2006, and has since been developed and performed at the University at Buffalo, and in an AEA Reading at the Princeton Club of New York in May 2007. The Pace reading will mark only the second complete presentation of the material, and its first full presentation in New York City.

The objective of "Pace New Musicals" is to nurture the creation of new musical theater in New York City and to provide an invaluable educational opportunity for students to work directly with top professionals in the field.

While beginning with six majors in 2002, the Musical Theater program has grown to more than 80 majors, becoming a BFA degree program in 2006. Under the guidance of Program Director Amy Rogers and Broadway music director Robert Meffe, the program is nurturing and educating the next generation of Broadway performers.

I saw this done at the University at Buffalo since Drew Fornarola's mother is one of the dancer professors there. It was really cute and funny. I'm glad to see it's taking off.

Sounds like a fun concept. I hope it can carry a whole show.
