PASSING STRANGE: Identity
PASSING STRANGE: Identity#1
Posted: 6/10/08 at 3:04pmI think this song sounds a lot like something by THE DOORS. The first part in particular, with Daniel Breaker speaking poetically and singing with a very deep baritone just like Jim Morrison, and then getting louder just like him. Does anybody agree with me?

Posted: 6/10/08 at 3:56pmI never thought of it that way (probably because I don't really listen to The Doors) but it's a cool observation. the song reminded me a bit of Laurie Anderson.

yes, yes, yes, Josh.....(i was very nearly a hippie in the 60s and loved Morrison, Clapton, Hendrix, Joplin, etc., whom all obviously inform Stew's music. Also, that wonderful folky rock sound in the show (and album) from Dylan, Mamas and the Papas, John Sebastian, Blood, Sweat and Tears.....
Maybe that's why I love the show so much...it's so nostalgic, but new!
Brings back the epic soulfulness of the rock concert days.

I also noticed some Hendrix in there ("We Might Play All Night") and many Lennon-esque tunes like "Passing Phase" and "Must've Been High" (listen to those Mellotron flutes!). I also heard Neil Young or Lou Reed in there somewhere ("It's Alright").
When I heard "Love Like That," I wanted to say to my dad that it sounded like Paul Simon, but as soon as I did, he first said "Paul Simon." And then I said, "You took the words right out of my mouth, Dad." That was real funny.
