Oh, definitely hope it's as good as it looks! I wonder how Jacoby sounds in the role after hearing him exclusively as Turpin.
yeah they really made sure to snap a lot of production shots for this one. it's hard with Music Circus since each show only runs for maybe 5-6 days before they bring in the next one. The SWING pics are available but I'm really lookin forward to those Julia Murney EVITA shots. Makes me miss the Bay Area, tho Sac-town in August is pretty rough

This looks amazing!!!
Love Mark Jacoby!!!
Excellent! And I bet he's glad he doesn't have to play any instruments this time.
Jacoby has better singing chops, pardon the pun, than Cerveris (no,I'm not bashing Cerveris). The timber of is voice is stunning.
Is that a girl playing Toby?
I saw Jacoby as Oscar in ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. Wonderful comic timing and a great voice.
Just got home from seeing the matinee today. It was very good -- probably one of the better shows I've seen at Music Circus.
And I "got it" better than the Doyle revival (tour). Sorry to anyone incensed by that.
I don't actually think you're sorry, but having seen both as well, I agree with the sentiment. Although it doesn't help that the sound mix was terrible when I saw the Doyle tour.
I didn't know Max Von Essen was back at the Sactown circus.
I kind of want to see this, but I don't really want to waste a tank and a half of gas to get there and as much as I love Sweeney I've kind of had a lifetime supply of it already. Not sure how much I'd enjoy sitting through the show again at this time in my life, lol...
clever name,
that is definitely not a girl playing toby. he's august emerson and he's a really great actor. if you check out some of the sweeney todd reviews, they mention him and how great his performance is.

I have to admit, I thought it was a girl, too. Can't find much on him except a few TV credits.
I would have loved to still be living in the Bay Area this summer, lots of shows I'd endure the nasty Sacramento drive to see. My last was PIMPERNEL in 2004.
This is a SWEENEY I would have been interested to catch, and I've really had my fill of the show for the most part. Having seen George Hearn, Stokes, Norm Lewis and Cerveris (he was good but I did not care for the John Doyle conception at all) perform it live, there are few actors I'd care to see take it on for the time being- but Jacoby is one of them. Love the man's voice, and would have liked to see this staged in the round.
For those of you in the area, enjoy this unique and impressive season. Got the pix ready for SWING and they're starting to come in for MY FAIR LADY. Both look great. Personally, Murney in EVITA is the one I would consider flying out there for!
