The Australian production of PIPPIN opened at Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne in February 1974 and played for 4 1/2 months before touring to Adelaide and Sydney where it was not so warmly received. The show closed in Sydney in September 1974.
Rights for the Australian production were purchased directly from Stephen Schwartz by the Australian Producer who had previously had an enormous success with GODSPELL. This later became the cause for legal action between Broadway Producer Stuart Ostrow and Stephen Schwartz. The Australian production also used some dialogue that differed from the Broadway original (provided by Stephen Schwartz). What else would you like to know?
