I have been reading these boards for about a month now, and I've seen there isn't alot of talk about Plays. So I have decided to start a thread dedicated to them. In this thread, we can discuss plays on or coming to Broadway or Off Broadway. I don't know how to start the conversation off, so if anybody's interested, just start posting.
Ok, I guess I'll start.
If anybody saw the Pillowman, why do you think Michal said he acted out "The Little Jesus."
Hmm...
Well, I can't say much about plays, considering I'm thirteen and I've only seen two in my whole theatre- going years. I've seen THE WOMAN IN BLACK in London and THE PILLOWMAN over here, (Yes, you read that right.) but I'm seeing DOUBT Saturday night, so I'll see how that turns out. I enjoy plays.
As for your question, I think Michal says he acted out, "The Little Jesus" because he had no choice. He was going to be executed soon anyway, so he might've figured out that it wouldn't matter if he said he did the crimes anyway. He did half of the crimes anyway, so since he's mentally retarted beyond repair, he thinks that telling the truth will bring him to the light when it really wouldn't. Who knows. It was a very interesting play, and I liked it, though it dragged in parts.
I agree, it did drag in many parts. It should have had a faster pace.
I never got to see Pillowman.
I really like plays. I like them more than Musicals, actually. It's just that they usually have such short running lives that I end up missing them.
I also tend to prefer the Off-Broadway plays. "Temporary Help" was one that really sticks in my mind. It was out a few years ago. It was brilliant.
I hope you enjoy Doubt. It is the second best play I have ever seen (behind Pillowman which I thought was a masterpiece). I have just recently started getting into plays. RIght now I'm trying to decide what two I should see in December.
It'd been a while since I'd seen a play also, so I saw A Soldier's Play earlier this week- completely loved it! Brilliant performances, and it just so completely sucked me in that when it was time for intermission I would've sworn that Act 1 had just started maybe 10 minutes ago, I was that into it. I'm going to see it again before it closes this month.
Anakela, you are so lucky. I live in California and get to come in about every other month. WHich is alot, but I still miss shows I want to see. And sadly, A Soldier's Play is one of them. The last time I was in, I saw Souvenir instead of it, which I am regretting tremendously now. Souvenir is really good, but I'm reading A SOldier's Play now, and it is truly breathtaking.
QMAN: Here's my review for Doubt.

Read and respond, PLEASE!!!
Cool review. But I thought Cherry's character was a good person. When the Father left the school, it was a sign that she was right. But when he got promoted, she started having Doubt about her faith and what it stood for. Great show.
