PRETTY BOYS!!

All I have to say is that I can not STAND pretty boys getting roles over amazingly talented (and better trained) Broadway hopefuls. EXAMPLES: Every male "school kid" in Hairspray. I'm sick of seeing it! for a show that is supposed to be making a point about different people has every pretty boy in town in the show...CANT STAND IT!

OK...I VENTED...I am just sick of seeing those WAY to thin bodies up on that stage!

re: PRETTY BOYS!!

Sounds like someone is being bitter after being cut from a HAIRSPRAY open call?!?!? The show is about a fat girl trying to fit in with the perfect looking TV kids Velma has put on the Corny show. Of course they look good... they're suppose to. That's what makes the story interesting. If the boys or girls were fat or ugly then what the hell would be the point of the story? I think you need to redirect your anger.

I guess I can see where you are coming from, but Hairspray was a poor choice to reinforce it! I think the guys in Hairspray are good looking and talented, and the whole point is for them to be good looking!

re: re: PRETTY BOYS!!

Excuse me? I have no intentions of ever auditioning for Hairspray. I happen to be a huge fan of the show and I totally understand what the show is all about. Where would you get something like "sound like someone is being bitter after being cut from a hairspray open call" That is totally rude and off the mark. I am not an actor I am a fan of the show and of the theatre. Yes, Hairspray is about a fat girl moving her way up onto a dance show. The kids on the Corny Collins show ares supposed to be dancers (pref. THIN), with your few good lookers like "Link" that STAND OUT from the rest. The movie, which was the original piece, had many average to ok looking guys and girls on the corny show...again...they were THIN hairhoppers. When you look at the original 1962 photos of the show, the memebers were not exactly models. I totally resent the fact that you assumed I am bitter because I have been cut from an audition. I am allowed to state my opinion. The contradicts itself in many ways

Um yeah, BASED on the movie, not the movie itself. They changed it to make its point more abundantly obvious, kid friendly and idiot proof.

Now in Les Miz when the students all had perfect smiles and jazz hands akimbo that was bad, but in Hairspray you have Adam Fleming, and he is an important "PRETTY BOY!", one who looks good be it pushing a hot dog cart or doing the mashed potato. He even looks cute on the candid photos on the back page of HX every week! We need some "PRETTY BOYS!" in our lives,it's the "UGLY GALS!" I have a problemo with..too many of them to mention on Broadway.

Pretty boys and pretty girls for that matter, are one of the basic reasons for seeing a show like, say, Mamma Mia.

There is a place in society for pretty things. Broadway is merely one of them.

I'm pretty, Mamma. I'm a pretty girl. Or boy. Or anything.

I do not remember Les Miz having Jazz Hands... did they re-choreograph the barracade scene to a Fosse style and I missed it?
