I thought Uptown Players' production was quite fun, actually, with a tremendous cast. The more than 100 people with whom I saw it certainly seemed to enjoy it!
willact, while Uptown's mission statement does not use the word "gay," more often than not, they present works with gay characters and themes. Their first show was WHEN PIGS FLY, and, in the coming season, they are producing THE NORMAL HEART, VALHALLA and THRILL ME: THE LEOPOLD AND LOEB STORY.

Posted: 5/30/06 at 5:17pmIt's unfortunate that an OOBC recording was never made. I don't think the Australian cast recording is as good of a representation that I think the show deserves. That being said, still fun to listen to.

I didn't get to see Uptown Player's production of it, but I do read John Garcia's column so I heard a lot about it, and it sure sounded it a hit.
Also, if Uptown Player's isn't a gay theatre, then they sure do a lot of gay themed stuff. Either way, I like it!
I really wished I could have auditioned for Thrill Me!

Posted: 5/30/06 at 11:37pmI directed Pageant last year in Charlotte, NC and it was a huge hit. Honestly, if it is done right...and in drag because I think it is crazy when I read about productions doing it with all women...it is a huge money maker!!! The music is fluffy but fun. I saw the video from Japan and it is pretty cool.
