Yeah Kevin Anderson didn't find out he wasn't going to Broadway until I think they announced the cast. I know they didn't tell him directly. I would have liked to see both Patti and Glenn.
I have to say watching Glenn on the Webber 50th birthday concert was a masterclass in acting. Is she a great singer? No. But for this I really didn't care. She really was enthralling. P
I saw Patti Lupone as Norma Desmond in the original West End production and she was astonishing.

I also have to agree that Close's version was far suprior to Lupone's. Others have hit it on the head when they say you can feel her acting just from the music.
I prefer Patti on recording, but I don't dislike Glenn. Actually Elaine Paige's is really great as already said too! But I think the recording I like best is the L.A. one too, not only because of what was mentioned but because of the orchestrations sounding "tighter" & crisper or something, and of course because Judy Kuhn :)!
