Hello Dolls! I checked out Miss Patti's website. She and her webmaster have revised it. You must read her newest "Ramblings From The Road". OUCH. Ms. LuPone gives a scathing review to the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. By the way, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you out there.... "in the dark." Kindest regards, Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic

"this lousy flea bitten sh**hole"
gawd, i love her!!
its so refreshing to have someone just call it out!!!
& its true...well, i dont know if im just noticing it because i'm getting older, but customer service SUCKS everywhere...
i dont know if this is happening in other places, but here in nyc its a big thing for cashiers to chat away on their celphones while they are ringing you up...when i worked those kinds of jobs, that would've NEVER been allowed (of course, they didnt have celphones back then...)
here, customer service people always act as if customers are getting in the way of them doing their job...HELLO, customers ARE your job!
Did she ever consider checking out and going to a more upscale hotel? She endured this for 9 days??!?!
Aw. The Palace is an institution! (I assume she's talking about the [former] Sheraton Palace on New Montgomery.) Then again, I've only eaten there, I've never stayed there.

Why is it that Patti feels like she can beat everything down as if its below her, such as this hotel or the Bank of America, and yet everyone reveres her and calls it refreshing? (Not to pinpoint you, Norn, but most people here do it.)
I don't care how talented she is, the woman is rude and a nasty, nasty person.

Agreed. I love her but she is so full of her self and rude! She thinks she's the greatest and she can't even get a decent movie role!
Um.. maybe because it's her BLOG, and therefore has the right to say whatever she wants. You people tend to forget that she is, afterall, a human being. We all complain. Get over it.

Because they'd revere her no matter what she says anyway and will find a reason to love her commentary, even if it takes some close inspection.

Talk about missing the point...
I've always found her remarks to be rude, not refreshing. She acts as if her sh*t don't stink all the time.
I find it ironic that a Nathan Lane fan is criticizing a celebrity for being rude and full of themself.

I don't think Nathan is THAT rude but I know he can be and no doubt he's full of himself.

because she gives her ***ALL*** to her job & expects others to do the same.
& i agree with her; constantly i encounter customer service people who, if i did my job to the same standards that they do theirs, i would be OUT ON MY ASS within the week.

haha oh patti...
i don't think she's full of herself... i think she's just being herself.

Westernsky, of course she's entitled to what she says on her blog. Did I ever doubt that? I'm saying that it's confusing why people love her despite her obvious unsavory views on anything below her.
Also, though it wasn't directed towards me, let the record show that I don't like Nathan Lane.

Okay, volleyballer, I know you don't like Patti. Get over it. She'll complain, and you seem to be complaining about her in every single thread about Patti. What's the problem with you?
Now, don't get me wrong. I am a huge Patti fan, and I don't find her to be rude and rather than full of herself I think she just recognizes the talent she has. But even I can get a little tired of her comments. I usually find her comments to be refreshing, but even I can notice when she's toed the line of just being disrespectful. Not everyone gets a big fat paycheck and can live in a small, beautiful town in Connecticut for doing something that they adore.
Does this rambling cause me to love her any less? Absolutely not.
Does it piss me off a little bit? Yeah.
Poor service is not limited to fabulous Broadway divas. There are countless examples everywhere of awful experiences, whether they be restaurants, theatres, hotels, airports, etc. When one is faced with a grim experience, a person can either: complain or not complain. If Ms. LuPone had an awful time at that place, she has every right to complain! Otherwise, how will things change if people stay quiet? It is interesting that a female star is harshly criticized for being quite vocal about her complaints. However, if it was a male artist being on the receiving end, chances are he would be applauded for standing up for himself. The double standard will never end. Frankly, I applaud Miss Patti for letting us know about her experiences. It enables the hotel in question to get their "act" together and possibly prevent another guest from having a similar experience. Besides.... it's her website and she can write what she wants to. Enough said. from Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic

Yes, every thread. Merely the ones in which her being a diva is a hotly debated subject, I feel the need to weigh in.

My problem was never with Patti's being allowed to complain. If I stayed in a location such as the one she's rambling about, I would complain, too. What I find ridiculous is how so many feel as if every time she can rag on something, it's as if the Lord came down and deemed it all right and holy. I don't have a problem with her complaints, but I do have a problem with people calling it "refreshing."
Thank you, ahmelie, for your post. You're the perfect example: someone who is a fan of the artist, but is actually realistic and can see past someone's fame or talent to know that sometimes things are a bit too harsh.

What a doll! A right classy dame we have here, folks! <3
But why did she continue to stay there for 9 days???
It makes her a martyr if she sticks it out for the whole stay?

How is that ironic?

Namo, Nathan is known to be a very stuck-up, unfriendly, non-grateful person during encounters at the stage door and whatnot.
Volley,
Have you met or worked with her?
If not, shut your pie hole.

Oh, I'm not allowed to think she's rude? I'm sorry. I didn't know I couldn't have an opinion.
