Boy, broadwayguy2, you really read alot of diva-ness into Patti's response...
Actually = Sharon McNight would be wonderful! She has a truly odd quality about her and is very interesting to watch. That was a great suggestion!
BoxOfficeJon - You're absolutely right! Sharon McNight would be a wonderful choice. Her role in Starmites was almost identical to Ursula and since nobody saw that, it probably wouldn't be an issue.

SUSAN FLANNERY who plays STEPHANIE FORRESTER on BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL should play URSULA. She'd make a ravaging, fantastic, divine and soaring URSULA. The ULTIMATE !!! Forget Patti LuPone. Forget all the others. Susan IS Ursula!
if what broadwayguy2 says about patti is true than maybe she wouldnt be quick to take a role in a disney production.
it does seem very pompous to refuse to work in an ensemble if you die 1/3 of the way through the show. the actress that plays eponine doesnt come until the end of act one and she does the ensemble roles in the begining. i dont see how any cast member couldnt take issue with that.
then again. disney is becoming a big player on b'way, and the west end (where i hear patti is more comfortable) as well.
Amen, sisters!

I highly doubt Patti LuPone would take on a Disney musical. Let's ask her to play Mrs. Potts while we're at it?? Come on, guys.
And I also don't think Emily Skinner will be reprising the role. I mean, she randomly dropped out of "On the Record". Do you really think she's in good graces with the Disney Corporation right now?
Anyone, but patti please...!

From what I've heard of Ursula's new material, it's jazzy, torchy, vampy/campy. I love the idea of:
Harvey Fierstein
Mary Testa
Sharon McKnight
Emily Skinner (though I too think she'd be out of grace with the Mouse)
Debbie Gravitte
but my favorite (though she says she can't do 8 shows a week anymore) would be LIZA MINNELLI!

Patti is a true professional and respectful of the crew and cast of shows she is in. Her comments about Les Mis are mostly in fun and were originally part of her humor in between songs in her one woman show. I bet if you spoke to the actors from that show, they would say she was a professional. (and personally, I do think it's quite random of them to throw the Fantine actress into the barricade scene for no real reason... but she DID do it night after night... it's not like she threw a tantrum... Keep in mind the only part of that story that we know is what Patti herself has told us... mostly in fun.)
We need Megan Mullaly!
well according to what i read on wikidpedia, ursula is to be a puppet, voiced by Pat Carroll. But if that idea is changed, i could definatey see Patti playing her. I would go for Rou Maclanahan & Carole Shelley too.
