I am setting up a date when a bunch of my friends and I go up to NY to see a 2 shows (a wed.)but i was wondering how i could find out who was performing at what show. We want to see Rent but with a good MiMi not some ex-pop singer who from what i have heard ruins the show. Any ideas?

i tihnk her name is karmine something. i ve seen and dont think she was good but i know people who love her proformence as mimi. scary spice was actually very good.

hmmmmm im not sure about this new mimi i havent seen her yet nor do i know who she is.. i have heard some good things about scary spice though... judging from your username you enjoy rent, so i wouldnt let the person playing mimi ruin it for you and go have a good time w/ your friends. i havent looked yet but im pretty sure you could find a cast list on one of the official web sites

Scary Spice is hideously bad. She can not sing for her life and brings half of her high notes down. Oh, she can't act either. Not to mention she has an English accent. I have seen her in the show and she just ruins the role of Mimi. If you go to the show on a matinee though, her understudy performs and she is amazing. Go try the lottery on a Wednesday matinee. That's my suggestion.

Do not see Rent unless you can get a matinee. Karmine, the understudy Mimi, is fantastic, but Scary lives up to her name. Do not go if she's there. It will kill the show for you.

I am confused.. who is this NEW Mimi? Are people referring to Karmine Alers? If my memory is correct (it isnt ver often) Karmine was there for awhile.

I saw a different understudy about a month ago, Dominique Roy, and she was AMAZING. It was a Sunday matinee. I thought I had heard that Scary Spice doesn't do matinees, but that might have been just a rumor.

Alrighty, let me straighten this out.

The current Mimi is Melanie 'Scary Spice' Brown, and her alternate is Karmine Alers. Karmine does the matinees and some evenings, I believe. There isn't a 'new Mimi' unless you're thinking of Mel B, GITF. Call the theatre if you want to know who's performing when.

I have seen Dominque too, Governor, and I think she's the most underrated Mimi. I didn't think her Out Tonight dance was anything special, but I love her vocals and she was one of the few Mimis I could believe was a nineteen year old. She's fantastic.

I just liked that you called her "scairy" like "hairy". Hehe, spelling can be enterianing.

Scary Spice is terrible. I am a huge RENT fan and probably always will. Ive seen some Mimis that I didnt think were that great, but Mel B really really cant sing. Her acting is ok I guess, but Mimi has got to be bale to sing. And even if she can sing a song, she messes up her voice constantly from atrining to hit notes out of her range, so then her voice sounds like a dying man.
But by all means, still go to the show. Go to the wed matinee and you will get to see Karmine.
