Hello, my name is Asher and I am a junior in high school. I am getting ready for auditions next year for performing arts colleges. I am currently looking at AMDA and AADA but from the threads that I have been reading it seems that they are not good/not reviewed nicely. I understand that college is what you make of it and that one must use the connections that they have to network to thrive in this tough business. I also know that I want to pursue acting and that once I get to whichever college that I am admitted too I WILL work hard and be committed. So, is there any suggestions of schools that I should be looking into or is AMDA and AADA really good quality schools? Any suggestions would be nice! Thank you :)))

My advice-Audition for as many schools as you possibly can. I had my auditions for contemporary circus colleges last year and i auditioned at 7 schools. Make sure you also have a back up plan. Amda has a bad reputation on here but Im not sure about AADA. You should also consider doing unified auditions. There are many many theater colleges out there and im sure you will find the right one. Just make sure you audition for A LOT of them.

Go onto College Confidential, it'll have a bunch of info for you about different colleges. Theres two sections for theatre, straight and musical. I found it extremely helpful in making my list.
The latter pages have the most up to date information...

Asher - You may want to look into University of North Carolina School of the Arts, see link below. A classmate of my daughter's in HS went there and is currently a understudy in the Off Broadway show "Forbidden broadway".

You should check out as many top level schools as possible as no one program is right for everyone. You need to find the best fit for you. Check out the alums to see ifmthey are doing the sort of work you currently aspire to.
I know the University of North Carolina School of the Arts program very well. Older grads include such diverse talent as Mary Louise Parker, Joe Mantello, Missi Pyle, Peter Hedges and Lauren Ward (formerly with the RSC and now in Matilda on Broadway).
More recent alums include Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, In Treatment), Bridget Regan (Legend of the Seeker), Daniel Sherman (Henry IV), Anna Camp (TrueBlood, Mindy Project, Equus), Wesley Taylor (Smash,Rock of Ages, the Addams Family, Billy Green), Trieste Kelly Dunn (Banshee), Billy Magnussen (Vanya, Sonya, Masha and Spike), Rachel Wallace (played Mary Poppins on tour and in Australia/NZ) and three alums in the same cast off-broadway in "Really Really".
