Hi Kids!:) I attended last night's (2/11) performance of Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby at the Cadillac Palace theatre in Chicago (Previous Tenant: All Shook Up's previews, and Next Tenant: Sweet Charity's previews.) I have to say that the main reason I went was because a good friend of mine grew up on the filmed version and is a die-hard Peter Pan fan, and we thought it would be fun to see Cathy Rigby fly. While I wasn't totally enraptured by the show, the children all around me were absolutely loving it. (Maybe it's my 22 year old cynicism, who knows?) Ms. Rigby is really amazing as Peter Pan, though. Though she's 52 years old, she somersaults and stands on her head and is utterly believable as a little boy. Her voice was really drowned out by the orchestra at some points, but she was great nonetheless. My favorite part was Howard McGillin as Captain Hook. This man is delightful and a perfect light opera villian. (True theatre geeks that my friend and I are: At one point we decided that Marc Kudisch will be an excellent Captain Hook at some point in his career!) The highlight of the show was the Stomp-esque "Ugg a wugg" number, which was the biggest routine of the night. I had completely forgotten about the Crocodile part of the show, and was thrilled to see it happen. (Please, Theatre Gods, let that be how I get my Equity card!) The flying effect was amazing, and I'm glad I got to see Ms. Rigby's farewell tour of the show. If you absolutely adore the show, or have children to take to the theatre with you, go. :) As for me, apparently I'm a little too grown up to head off to Never never land (unless it's the Scott Alan song.:))

Toodles!

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

You mean "Tootles." re: Peter Pan 2/11 review (Chicago)

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Hehe. Actually, I meant "Toodles," as written, but now that you mention it I stand corrected...I should have signed it off with "Tootles." Leave it to you Capn, to set me straight.

Haha.

Glad you enjoyed it, at least.
