Capn,

Janet Higgins was Twin 1 (u/s Peter Pan). Dorren Chilla played Twin 2 , and was replaced by Joseph Favalora (both u/s John, Slighty). Aileen Quin played Tootles and Jane, and she was replaced by Hally McGeehan (u/s Wendy).

And there you have it. :)

Too lazy to look it up. :P

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Not sad at all.

I know all the names, just sometimes confuse the roles.

It's hard when you know the names of so many performers from so many films and stage productions. re: Peter Pan

Let me ask you, since this is a question I am helping a local school decide:

Captain Hook. How do you prefer the character be portrayed? More comical, ala Cyril Ritchard; or more sinister, ala Paul Schoeffler?

The Mary Martin version BUGS me because it is TOO light hearted and comical. I LOVE Barrie's darker tale. Hook should be sinister and mean.. dare I say scary.. buts hould still be able to play the comedy without overdoing it.

I agree. He should have light/funny moments, but overall be scary. I mean, what group of pirates would want their captain to be funny? That is not the way of the pirate

So would you say Jason Isaacs' portrayal was best?

I love Peter Pan.

Loved the Mary Martin TV version as a kid. One of the reasons I became an actor. Martin was pure joy up there, but her woundedvulnerable moments were so honest. I loved Cyril Ritchard's very foppish Hook. Delightful, light, fun.

Equally impressed by the Rigby Pan. Nicely re-worked, dazzling ograhy (esp. the Indian stuff), great prod. values. Rigby is more boyish and very athletic in the role. Her Hook (in the A&E vers.) was quite sexy and sinister, I enjoyed his take as well.

? in those Sandy Duncan photos, is that "Mr. Belvedere" as Hook?

Great site Capn, Bravo! Keep up the good work.

Dolly,
I knew I was an actor the first time I saw Peter Pan.

I think Hook needs to be very menacing to support the suspense. That still leaves lots of room for comedy, as the character is so colorful. I love how Paul Schoeffler played it. The asides and inside jokes with the audience are perhaps the most fun part about playing him. One bit that we got a lot of mileage out of (and anyone is welcome to use) was after Wendy forbids the boys from eating the poisoned cake in Act 1, foiling Hook’s plot, he tells the pirates, “Get that out of my sight! Uh, but take care of it—we shall cut it up and sell it later (tilting his head at the audience).” There were some very concerned children at intermission when there was a table with volunteers dressed as pirates selling green cake.

I've always wondered why it jumps acts. In the Mary Martin version, there's Acts 1, 2 and 4. No act three.

Princess,

No, I adore the film, however I was very disappointed. I was expecting a very different kind of film. The promotional stills were very deceiving, as were the trailers.

The film had many good moments, and others not so good. The flying was very unimpressive. They relied totally on their CGI backgrounds, the children did nothing. But I don't expect the Darling children to do anything, I expected Peter Pan to fly better. It was all very dull.

The Black Castle scene was my favorite. A great battle, lots of comedy, and one nice flying stunt.
