Phantom: Good Reviews

Morning everyone!

Okay, so many of you know that I'm a Phantom purist, and I don't hold out much hope that the movie will be able to do the show justice (although I am seeing it tonight, so we'll see). But it occurred to me the other day, that if the movie is REALLY bad, than it could hurt the stage show. Well, that thought freaked me out incredibly (especially since I haven't played Christine yet, and it's been my goal since I was 10--my goal USED to be to play Christine in the movie but Emmy Rossum beat me to it :) ). Anyway, I've been trying to look up reviews and it's getting some awful ones. So now i'm REALLY flipping out. So, if anyone knows of any GOOD reviews (and not just user reviews--real ones from newspapers) it would greatly put my mind at ease

The movie won't have any affect on the stage show.

Guys, I'm SO sorry, I just scrolled down and saw an entire thread devoted to Phantom Reviews! I didn't even check--I was thinking about posting this all morning, so I just went right into it.

and JohnPapa--I would hope it wouldn't have an effect on the stage show--however, look what the success of Chicago did for the Broadway production. If it works positively, it can work negatively too.

jp, i disagree (suprise! didn't se that coming did ya?).

i think that good or bad, the mere publicity of the name will drive up sales in the short term as people who either haven't seen it (are there any left?) or have seen it way back when return to catch it a second (or 175th) time around. reviews are decidedly less than stellar for the film, but i contend that the mere name repetition and the seeing ads for it will drive up short term sales.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was just saying that the bad reviews aren't going to negatively affect peoples' interest in the stage show.

you're right about that, jp. if anything they'll steel their resistance and fill them with the warm glow of victimhood, the fans that is. the rest of the public, eh?
