Posted: 11/24/03 at 6:23pmLol, I just have to say that this board made me chuckle so far. Personally, I think that Les Miz is a far better show than Phantom. Much more faithful to the book it is based upon, and the plot/music is more moving. And FYI Christine--it's YOU'RE welcome, not your welcome.

Well unfortunatly I've never seen Les Miz so I can't compare.. but I would probably like Phantom better because after all the shows I've seen so far- I still like Phantom the most.
Sumofallthings- Phantom has 6,598 performances.

Please knock CATS down!!
I have faith in a Disney show to obtain longest running musical on Broadway. They will never die. Beauty and the beast is coming close to ten years- yah never know.

NO! This can't happen. It'll only give my Phantom-loving friend another reason to gloat.
But then I wouldn't mind if it bypassed Cats.

Posted: 11/24/03 at 8:12pmYEs I also think a Disney show would overtake and run forever. So hopefully Phantom or SOMETHING will just keep going and going.

Phantom Posed To Pass Les Mis?
I think you might mean Phantom Poised To Pass Les Mis.

Kitzarina -- you think Les Mis the show was faithful to the book? Did we read the same book? Although I will give you this, it IS, as you say, closer than POTO is.
The word on the street (44 St that is) is that the POTO desperately wants to pass Cats. I don't think that's likely to happen, but it would be a crying shame is nothing surpassed Cats, even POTO.

Posted: 11/25/03 at 6:07pmAlthough some of the plot devices are changed in the show Les Miz, it stays extremely faithful to the spirit of the book. I've only listened to Phantom once, and was fairly disgusted by what they did to the novel. Then again, I don't particularly care for ALW, so maybe that was it. Even if they did completely transform the Thenardiers in writing the show, they didn't touch Hugo's vision of Jean Valjean. I just wish I could say the same for ALW and Erik.

Posted: 11/25/03 at 6:12pmIf any show passes CATS it would have to be Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King. Both shows can still appeal to the children and adults. It just needs some good creative advertising to make it claw its way past

Posted: 11/26/03 at 9:27amI was not aware that the Phantom had eaten Les Mis. But I am sure he will feel much better once he passes it. Parhaps he won't be so grumpy. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Kitzarina : I see what you mean & I agree about POTO. What a wreck! I was just upset about what they did in Les Mis to the characters of Eponine & Marius & Javert. They TRIED to show Hugo's opinion of Javert but got caught up in the good guy-bad guy thing.
Ah, well, anyway it was an interesting exchange -- thanks! :) Have a happy holiday!
