Yaay, I and the gorgeous man to my left are so glad you enjoyed it!
I would have followed him and never went with Patrick.
Even deformed the man was more interesting than Wilson.
Uh oh be on the lookout for Beacon...
well it wasn't Wilson's fault that Gerry is the god to me that he is and that Raoul is just a big bore, suppose he did what he could.
But screw going w/ him then, I would never have come back up after music of the night
True. Agreed.
It was so romantic. I have goosebumps.
Edited for the humorless.

It's allowed given the circumstances. So romantic, sensual, emotional, just...ulgh everything. And point of no return...oh boy.

Fine!
You can both have Gerry/The Phantom.
That means more Mister Wilson/Raoul for me!!!!!
"All I Ask of you"---so romantic!
And, his "I fought so hard to free you"...WOW!

"It was so romantic. I have goosebumps. Am I turning into a tourist. I'm scared."
WTF does THAT mean??? You saw a movie, thought it romantic to the point of goosebumps, and then ask if you are turning into a tourist as though that's a derogatory thing.
And you state you *work* in tourism.
beacon1 can I share Raoul with you? Maybe just on Tuesdays and bank holidays? :)
TV Pan-and-scanning destroys this movie. It was made in 'scope.

That's how my family and I spent Christmas Eve. Watching that, with me complaining about Emmy Rossum's every sung word... and pretty much about everything else. i hope they enjoyed it .

I didn't think the movie was very good and I wanted to like it.
Everything seemed a bit off. The acting, the vocal performances, the casting, the direction. Everything. The movie actually amplified the stage show's flaws.
Even the costumes weren't quite right, IMO. (And it would seem hard to mess up period costumes.) I know that the director was going for oppulence with the over-the-top clothing and makeup in the first scene. But he took it too far over-the-top. Instead of satirical gaudiness, it came off as eye-assulting FUG.
People who love movie musicals should contrast the PotO movie misfire, with Mike Lee's Victorian-era film Topsy Turvy. That movie - which is about the creation and staging of the Gilbert and Sullivan light opera, The Mikado - got everything just right. Acting, singing, sets, costumes, screenplay, direction, were all simply smashing.
So it's not that I don't like period musicals. I just like them to be beautifully executed.
YMMV.

I thought Phantom was a really bad film. I did think there was one really weird element in it though. For some reason, whenever anyone started to sing, the director would cut away from them. Watch the film carefully, almost no one but Emmy Rossum gets to sing onscreen for more than a few words before the picture cuts away to something else, or they move into a shadow or behind a piece of scenery, or something like that. I always suspected it had something to do with the film's international market, that it would be easier to dub into other languages if lip synch wasn't such a total problem.
And last night, as I watched the film (marvelling all over again at how tastelessly vulgar almost everything in the film is) I switched over to the Spanish Language version and my suspicion was confirmed: the dubbing into Spanish is almost flawless, largely because the vast majority of the singing is done offscreen.
Beacon I don't share Gerry. He's been my icon and I've been his biggest shill since the movie first came out. I don't mind others swooning over him though, but no sharing
I watched it for the first time since I saw it on Broadway (I've seen it at least 35 times before). It doesn't impress me anymore, honestly, since I've seen the show and I've seen it so many times. Gotta love Gerry Butler, though.
