This is a really old question and I remember it being talked about before, but why exactly was the line "funny sort of spectre to expect a large retainer" changed to "apparition"? Are those alternate lyrics? I don't understand the point of changing it. Did they think apparition is a more well known word or something?

Posted: 10/3/06 at 2:53pmI hate to piggyback since I don't have an answer to your question but while we're on the subject of POTO lyrics, Meg's changing lyrics in Angel of Music always bothered me. I believe it was "Christine you must have been dreaming" etc in London...and then it became "I watched your face in the shadows" in the Broadway production (or at least in the Los Angeles which I saw several times) and then they reverted back to the London lyrics for the movie. I never liked the original lyrics and wish they hadn't reverted back to them for the movie.

Posted: 10/3/06 at 3:02pmIm not sure why they changed the lyrics, but every lyric that they changed is terrible. They should have kept the same lyrics from the show.

Posted: 10/3/06 at 3:03pmNothing about that movie makes much sence, and i'm a fan of the show. Maybe the actor in the movie kept flubbing the line so they just changed it like they did everything else.
