I noticed that they revamped the taverna walls in the past few years. Anybody know why this is the case?

Also noticed they're using a touring set for this production. No false proscenium, raked stage or disco floor.

Well it is just the touring set, so no white proscenium, just the blue stripe flat, also the disco floor is still there, you just cant see it properly. Those jagged walls are also part of the touring set, so they can collapse easier for moving (think of lion king on tour, pride rock looks more like steps so it can compact on itself)

I have been told the new set has been built on top of the old "The Lion King" one, instead of building everything from scratch, and have hear two different explanations :
– in case "Mamma Mia!" was not a hit (really?), they would have brought "The Lion King" back on stage
– the "Lion King" set was supposed to be sent to Spain where the show was going to play, but the project got delayed.

That's interesting.

they may have sent the drops and light boxes to Madrid, but the whole Pride Rock thing is not being used in Madrid so it could very well be just there under the Mamma Mia set.

The Paris Lion King has pride rock rising out of the stage floor, they did excavation and have a very deep basement in Paris. IN Madrid, they are using the touring Pride Rock that slides in from the wings.
