It looks pretty much the way it did in Los Angeles. I liked it and wish it well but I have to wonder about it on Broadway.

I was thinking ZOOM: THE MUSICAL. Still, it got nice reviews out of town and it is Jason Robert Brown, so...
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

No, it will be 100 times better. I will listen to the cast recording 8 million times, and most of you will too, but it will still fail. That's par for the course with a JRB show.

They've since gotten rid of the desks in the first and last scene (as shown in the picture). There are now no scenes set in a classroom. It really is changing drastically week by week.

Really looking forward to this.

Ahahahaha.

People are going to pay $120 to see a show on Broadway that really should belong on a high school stage?

It won't be long until this show is completely forgotten. It won't have the fame for having only one performance, nor will it be the next Spring Awakening.

They pay to see Disney and Xanadu, and those are definitely more suited to HS stages.

I have seen the show at Goodspeed. It has a great score! plus those kids are kinda cute..There were no adults in the cast. (including the band) I thought its a great idea~though kinda remind me of Disney's High School Musical with better score and book (more substance)

Actually JRB's score is very memorable. I'm looking forward to see the show on Broadway at the Jacobs Theater (Royale) I wanna see the changes. they made from the CT try-out. I am very optimistic about the show! re: Photos : Jason Robert Brown's 13 (from Goodspeed)

btw- the stage is angled (very sharp)~that's why it looks like that. you will understand when you see the show..its hard to explain.

If you are sitting at the CENTER Orchestra- this will be your view.. see how that corner of the room is kinda sharp.

mallardo, are you crazy??? The production couldn't be more polar opposite in terms of set/costume from LA. At least, not without straying from the material.

achangeinme, I think 13's pretty much the only one. Unless you're talking about Spring Awakening, which has a lot of 18-22 year old cast members.

walkedthroughmany, did they change that since Wednesday? Because I saw the matinee and "All Hail the Brain" definitely had the desks, and that picture looks a lot like that scene.

Are all the songs as awful as the song in the video? I assume it's called "13" because they say it over and over. And I agree...kids singing? Spring Awakening is one thing, most of of those performers are young adults, but anyone under, say 16, singing? Oy, it hurts. Especially in group numbers.

I adore Jason Robert Brown. Parade is, in my opinion, one of the best of the newer scores. I'm also a fan of Songs for a New World and while I have some problems with Last Five Years, I do enjoy a lot of the score despite a weak premise. But he also wrote some really awful music for Urban Cowboy. I think when working with an experienced book writer/playwright or a great director like Daisy Prince, Brown is fine.

Are they going for a High School Musical crowd? Are parents going to want to pop out 120 bucks a kid for this, not even a brand or recognizable name? Couldn't they get one of the Jonas Brothers? I just can't see this running more than a few months, if that. Especially in the Fall going into Winter, the slowest season on Broadway. We'll see...

shesamarshmallow, if it's different I can't see it in those photos which is all I have to go on. The basic set-up looks the same. As I said, I enjoyed it. My fingers are crossed for it.

The set in LA had three stories - kind of like Next to Normal, though they opted not to use the top level - and the set pieces were almost entirely integrated. The set at Goodspeed is essentially a big gymnasium, with set pieces rolling in through the doors. Really the only design element kept is the "garage" that the band plays in.

I think 13 is a great opening number, but if you didn't like that and are worried about the rest of the score, have faith that most of the new songs ("Here I Come", "If That's What it Is", etc) are far more sophisticated than what I heard in LA.
I also think you'll be surprised by some of the voices on these kids, especially Allie Trimm and the ensemble boys.
