They could certainly pass for Argentine, especially in Buenos Aires, which is much more culturally diverse than the rest of the country (and most of South America). My parents lived there for 5 years and I was surprised how many people did not appear "Latin" to me. And in Buenos Aires, they really consider themselves more "European". It's really a different world from the rest of South America.
I don't remember a big issue about William Hurt not appearing "Latin" when he won the Oscar, or Brent Carver when he won the Tony, but I could be mistaken.
