might as well throw her name in the ring seeing as everybody under the sun is being suggested for this role.

Well, she did Dolly..... why not Elphaba?
I don't know about Ms Diller as Elphaba but I adore my two Phyllis Diller comedy CDs. They sound a little old fashioned at first but after a few minutes the time melts away and she has me in fits of laughter.
Some day it might be fun to hear her cackle as Elphaba, or maybe she could play the aged Glinda in the further tales of OZ.
Glebb -- I think you may have hit on something there... I would pay to see that!
Sure... why not Phyllis. They don't seem to have anyone else, so bring her on, I'm ready...
Well, with the names being tossed around as "final choices" (as far as the genius sleuths on this board are concerned), Diller, in all honesty, seems the least ridiculous choice.

Diller was a fine Dolly--really, she was. However, when I last spoke to her, she said that she was getting too old to do major roles on stage. I think she's in her 80's.
if she did it it would bring her to a whole new generation of theatre goers.

One of my favorite childhood movies was "Mad Monster Party". Phyllis Diller is hilarious.

Let's hear it for Phyllis!
She truly was hilarious and very underrated. She was also good as Texas Guinan in the film Splendour in the Grass (Hello Suckers!).
She's 87 now and has been officially retired for a couple of years.
I think Debbie Reynolds would make a good Elphaba.

No, Phyllis can't be retired. I saw her when she did a guest spot in that dreadful Off-Bwy show PETE~N~KEELEY. It wasn't all that long ago. That's when I got a chance to speak to her.

Dollypop, you're right. I just checked, and her "official" retirement, which she announced in 2002, was from doing stand-up. So I guess she really is available for Elphaba after all.
