I've heard mumblings and rumors that a sit-down production of "The Light in the Piazza" is planned for San Francisco. My friend who just returned from NYC said that Victoria Clark told her this as well, in person, at the stage door when she heard she was from SF.

Anyone have any stronger "facts" to add to this?

If true, that'd be absolutely wonderful. I can picture it beautifully in the Curran. If there's ever an outside town that'd welcome a gorgeous show like "Piazza," San Francisco would be it. Something about its taste really seems to settle with a lot of West Coast theatre fans. Updated On: 2/1/06 at 05:37 PM

I have no information about this but my friend is a good friend of Vicki so I can ask him. (I really doubt it about "sit down" though, a touring company possibly)

But I think Curran's stage is too small for Piazza. I wonder if they do it at Opheum (please please not at Golden Gate!).

It'd be pretty at the Orpheum too!
I'd prefer it there, in fact.
I think I meant "extended run."

It is a shame because I want "Piazza" to have a huge afterlife but part of what makes it so beautiful is how well it is designed for the Lincoln Center space. It will be interesting to see how a change in setting affects the production itself.

I have heard nothing about that, and I'm a good source. Doesn't mean it isn't coming, just that I've heard no confirmed reports of it

It would not surprise me if it shows up at ACT next season. That's how SF got Urinetown, and it was a wonderful production. Plus - the theater is just spectacular.
