Here is a (quick) review for the first tour performance of the Light in the Piazza on August 1, 2006 in San Francisco. Enjoy.
The show was without a duobt amazing. Identical to broadway but it now has a scrim as a curtain, that's about all that was changed. The show looks better on a smaller stage instead of a massive one. The cast was indredible, and for being their first night, I can't immagine how much better they will get. Here are some standouts in the cast.
Elena Shaddow(Clara)-This girl can sing. Not only does she go for those high notes, and shake the rafters at the smae time, her acting, paticularly in the second act will put you in tears. "Clara's Interlude" was truly phenomenal.
David Burnham(Fabrizo)-Not only can Clara sing, his guy can sing, too! Holy cow, he's is one of the most impressive tenors Iv'e heard in a show. Every song he sang, he had the audience in the palm of his hand. Just amazing.
Laura Griffith(Franca)- Great acting, funny, and brings you to tears as well. When she talks about fighting for love, you can't help but get teary-eyed. He voice is lovley, and clear as a bell. For the first time I enjoyed "The Joy You Feel" and she was awesome durring "Aiutami" She hit those crazy high notes, and didn't scream them.
Christine Andreas(Margret)- This lady is so graceful and lovley, she is stunning. Her acting is really good, and many times made your heart just break and mend at the same time. She was great. Her "Dividing Day" was chilling and one of the highlights of the show. She belted it like the star that she is. She seemed to just get better and better as the show progressed,
Hope this was enough to feed your Piazza cravings!
