Pippin is egregiously overlooked in the scope of musical theatre. It is profoundly complex and dark, and it's quite odd how our collective memory doesn't view the show in that lens (like Nowack said, many elect to recall it as cutesy).
Personally, the Paulus production was musical revival at its finest, so I'm fine with waiting decades for another production of this show on Broadway. I'll need quite some time for a performance of Pippin to blow me away like that revival did.
