I saw the Original Revival Cast two years ago and just saw the tour of Pippin last night. I am just wondering why this show us revived more often. People love the show and the Leading Player can be such a Star role. Will it be another 40 years before the show is back on Broadway?

I've heard some people say that they think of it as a "cutesy" show or something along those lines. I've never thought that but maybe that's the reason.

Pippin is egregiously overlooked in the scope of musical theatre. It is profoundly complex and dark, and it's quite odd how our collective memory doesn't view the show in that lens (like Nowack said, many elect to recall it as cutesy).
Personally, the Paulus production was musical revival at its finest, so I'm fine with waiting decades for another production of this show on Broadway. I'll need quite some time for a performance of Pippin to blow me away like that revival did.

The score is almost unrelentingly cute, which is occasionally at odds with the script. Since the show was rarely seen on Broadway, and since the script used in licensing has varied repeatedly over the decades from a version closer to or farther from Fosse's darker draft, the show's Brechtian darkness and cynicism isn't always the main point people remember.
