My school has just announced that our musical is Pippin. I am going for the role of Catherine, do any of you have any audition song suggestions?! Thanks so much. I'm tired of singing the same stuff I've been singing & ive never played a role like Catherine before.

Look at the female songs from Godspell and Children of Eden, two other shows written by Stephen Schwartz. Do NOT sing something from Wicked. Over done....and seldom well-done.

Great songs, though if your audition involves a pianist, do not sing anything from Light in the Piazza. It will not go well for either of you.

True, though the piano in this song is much easier to play than anything else in the score. How about instead of the Piazza song, maybe "So Anyway" from next to normal or "The Gentleman is a Dope" from Allegro?

Luminous, funny you went with, among others, Frank Mills. As I thought about Catherine as archetype (and how best to present her through a song from another show), and the tone of "Kind of Woman," Frank Mills came to my mind as well. But I finally lighted on Florence in Chess and the poignance of Heaven Help My Heart.
I also especially like your suggestion of "Somone Like You".
It wasn't that easy to think of a lot of songs from other shows that strongly suggest Catherine in Pippin. "Kind of Woman" is not a typical signature song. With its light hearted swing, tongue in cheek tone and Catherine's amusingly but not aggressively selling herself - and refreshing point of view: describing and distilling her own qualities rather than the qualities of the man she's into (or as in "Changing My Major," the woman she's into) - "Kind of Woman" is rather unique.
Sofiaur, if you do choose any of these songs, and particularly the one I suggested, Heaven Help My Heart, I'd say it's important to find both the self-confidence but also the humility (!) and lighthearted humor. That's probably the best way to get them to think you're right for Catherine. Heaven Help My Heart is not nearly as self-evidently fun as Kind of Woman but it might strike a similar balance.

Henrik, I 100% agree with your post! It's also important to show a profound sadness in singing without coming off as whiny or clingy, for "I Guess I'll Miss the Man." It took Rachel Bay Jones (dir. Paulus) to elevate that song from sappy sit-through to stunning. Your suggestion of "Heaven Help My Heart" could potentially go there, as well, depending on how OP interprets the song. I hope OP sees all these suggestions and finds them helpful, but if not, I'm enjoying this conversation!
