Pit Orchestras

Ok, so I'm new, and I'm really sorry if this topic has been discussed before, as some people seem to be really anal about repeated topics, but, as I don't really have time to browse through all of the messages (aren't college apps great?)...
How much are pit orchestra musicians paid? How much is the conductor paid? Just wondering. I play in pit for HS musicals, and one day my section screwed up, and the conductor got really pissed off and said something to the extent of, "people on broadway get paid lots to sit there and play those parts". is that even relatively true?
Thanks

I believe on Broadway they get an amount similar to the actors - around $1500 a week. And they can still do studio work during the day.
Of course, union musicians are expected to be able to play multiple instruments, sightread, transpose instantly, etc.
