The Pillowman is the best play you can spend your money on this season. If the American cast can do what the British cast did, this will be the most superior play on the boards in years. Doubt is totally overrated, but worth seeing for Jones and O'Byrne. Streetcar has the most interesting cast. As for Julius Caesar, some English guy named Shakespeare wrote it ... I hear he has a bit of a buzz.

I can't wait to see "Streetcar Named Desire" and "Steel Magnolias." As for "Julius Ceaser," I don't get why Denzel is getting all the credit. I mean, someone HAS to play Ceaser, no?

Although the play is called Julius Caesar, Brutus is the lead. If I remember correctly, Caesar dies halfway through and most of the play is focused on Brutus's machinations.

Well, just because Brutus is the lead isn't the only reason he's getting all the buzz. He would be getting all of the buzz if he was third spear carrier on the left. He's Denzel Washington.

You can't beat the casts for STREETCAR and MENAGERIE. Off-Broadway, David Mamet's ROMANCE looks great. I can't wait to see one of my favorite people, Jessica Hecht, play Portia opposite Denzel in JULIUS CAESAR. Just got my tickets for THE PILLOWMAN.

Why is Denzel getting all the credit? Because it already has an advance of over $3 million (approx what it cost to mount the show in the first place), unheard of for Shakespeare on Broadway and remarkable for any non-musical show still just in rehearsals. ALL of those sales and the reason the show is happening at all is because of Denzel Washington (he expressed interest in getting back to the stage and it was his idea to do Caesar).
There's no telling nomnations until we see the actual productions. We know the material is good, but everthing depends on how well that material is executed.

wait until you guys see the new on golden pond. i saw it in dc. the set is absolutely incredible and beautiful. james earl jones gives a truly poignant performance. and the girl who plays the daughter is phenomenal. she totally steals the show.

On Golden Pond is one of the five shows I'm seeing in March (out of about a hundred that I want to see) just so I can see James Earl Jones.

Saw OGP in DC as well. The show itself left me underwhelmed, as it always has, but James and Leslie are wonderful.

so many! The glass menagerie, who's afraid of virginia woolf?, the pillowman and Streetcar. I am so excited for all of these revivals!

mef, what did you think of the daughter, i forget the actress's name. she was unbelievable the night i went to see it. so good. and the sets i thought were magnificent.

Linda Powell played Chelsea. I thought she was great. I just don't like the play. All of the acting was good.

Jones is the ONLY reason to see On Golden Pond. Uggams is fine in a nothing role, but I thought Linda Powell (Colin's daughter) was absolutely AWFUL -- I hope they recast the role because she was an embarassment the night I saw her (there was much discussion at intermission how she must have gotten cast just because of her father). The play itself belongs in a dinner theatre somewhere, not on Broadway, but Jones all by himself lends gravity and electricity to the proceedings and somehow manages to spin straw into gold. He's still a powerhouse on stage and displays exactly why he's a legend.

margo, you really didn't like linda? i thought she was the real star of the show and almost took the show away from jones. i saw leslie's understudy in the show. i'm hoping leslie is stronger.

I definitely didn't think Linda overshadowed James or Leslie. I would have liked to have seen what Diahann would have done in the role.
