Posted: 7/24/04 at 4:25pmMy last trip to Broadway I saw three GREAT plays - Frozen, I Am My Own Wife, and Jumpers. I love musicals, but more and more I find myself deeply moved by plays. That can happen with muicals too (for example, in Caroline, or Change, Assassins), but it seems to be happening for me more with plays (Metamorphoses, True West, The Invention of Love, The Real Thing, The Goat, Take Me Out, Long Day's Journey, Our Lady of 121st Street....). I come to the theatre to be moved. Updated On: 7/24/04 at 04:25 PM

A great play which is well-acted appeals to the mind ...and a great musical which is well-presented appeals to the heart. I find watching a very good play very absorbing and sometimes even draining, while I tend to rejoice more while watching a good musical.
I think this is the secret of LES MISERABLES - it possesses the strengths of a great play and the emotional impact of a great musical.
Had I more opportunity, I would like to see more plays on Broadway. But when one is limited to maybe around 4-5 shows to see each year when I am able to visit Broadway or the West End, I am afraid I will go for more musicals than plays.

Posted: 7/24/04 at 5:42pmThe majority of my theate viewing experiences have been made of of musicals. I have only recently started seeing plays and though and though I enjoy them as well I think I will have to choose musicals because it's what I'm most familiar with.
