Please help plan V'day surprise

I would like to get tickets soon to a broadway show for my girlfriend and I for Valetine's day. I am trying to do this as a surprise so it is up to me to pick the show on my own (which I could use some help with).

Background: We are in our mid 20's and I know she has enjoyed The Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, and Phantom. We saw Rent (tour) together and she liked it but did not love it. I think those are the only ones currently on B'way she has seen.

My initial thoughts are that Avenue Q would be great, but not for this trip. Aida and Wicked seem to be my top choices right now. I see some negative comments on Aida, but if you think it would be good for a casual broadway-goer, like ourselves, let me know. Aida is in the running because it was recommended by a friend that lives in the City, and Wicked because I see a lot of people here seemed to really enjoy it.

thanks very much for whatever help you can provide. Updated On: 12/11/03 at 09:43 AM

scud,
i agree that AIDA is prolly your best bet. from the shows that your girlfriend likes, plus the romantic storyline, i think this is the show for you. it is good for the "cas" theatre goer. enjoy!!

Haven't seen Aida, but I can recommend Little Shop (front mezz seats are ideal). Your girlfriend likes spectacle (nothing wrong w/ that, esp. for $100 a pop), so Wicked seems a good choice as well. Ave Q is wonderful, but no spectacle. Have a great V-day.

GO SEE WICKED! I promise you'll love it!! And your girlfriend will too! (by the way, Aida's great too, so don't listen to the negative comments about it)

Aida is prob a great choice for the evening. If you enjoy old school musicals, Wonderful Town is very good--very funny, fun, and romantic. =)

Make sure you see Avenue Q and Hairspray sometime!

Wicked for drama and spectacle. Hairspray will be the most fun and memorable evening. Aida is somewhat romantic, but not that great. Go with Aida only if you get a discount. I think the other two are more worth the money.
