So I was watching the Macy's Day Parade with my friend Jackie who happens to be someone who works for the producers of Rent. According to her, she says that ticket sales at the Nederlander Theatre have gone down, and they are going to close for six to eight weeks. She also says that after that period of time, they are planning to bring back the original cast. I looked on top ticket sales on another broadway website, and Rent was in the top ten. Does anyone know if this is true? Or was Jackie telling a blithering lie??

Posted: 1/20/06 at 1:30pmThe only thing the original cast is doing is the ten year aniversary. And ticket sales are higher than they've been in a long time. Sorry but your friend is definitely lying to you.

Posted: 1/20/06 at 1:31pmI am not going to give you facts. My opinion, however, is that it's a lie. Especially that part about the original cast, I don't see how that would happen.

Big lie. But like most lies, it has elements of truth in it.
The Nederlander closed for a little while before the movie came out to install a new sound system. The original cast will be reuniting for a one off benefit concert on the 10th anniversary. And one look at Rent's box office should tell you it's doing better than ever since the movie came out.
