Although I am dreading the coming onslaight of Broadway shows with cut-and-paste scores built on previously recorded pop & rock hits, I was curious as how long this trend has been going on.
Before MAMMA MIA! and MOVIN' OUT, there was SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE...and the dreaded BEATLEMANIA... What else from seasons past?
Cut-And-Pastes from other genres included BUBBLING BROWN SUGAR, EUBIE!, AINT MISBEHAVIN', KAT AND THE KINGS...what others?
I'm happy as long as there are brownies in the green room.
I think the music of Paul Simon compiled for a massive flop of a musical. I dont recall the name of it. Though it may have been original music, im not 100% sure. Any help anyone?
But, I say a prayer every night for the end of this trend. You can rationalize all you want (it keeps actors employed, it makes good money, etc), i dont care. It's ruining the musical theatre world as far as I'm concerned.
