I know there are other Mary Poppins threads. But this is MY thread so it is special.

I received my C.D. today in the mail. I really like it, but it's quite a bit different from the movie, isn't it? I would actually prefer that they leave it as is when bringing it to Broadway. However, I am beginning to see where the controversy lies...

I found the show to be very thought-provoking especially in terms of the relationships between the children and their parents and also the parents themselves. I felt this aspect of the show far outweighed the spectacle which was a bit disappointing in the light of this being Mackintosh and Disney. I agree that it should not be tinkered with on its future transfer.

I HATED the CD! Maybe it's because I had it after I saw the show twice! Therefore you could probably be sure that the show itself is WAY better than the cast recording!

Why? As far as I can tell, the CD is a fairly accurate reproduction of what I heard in the theatre music-wise and aurally it's certainly one of the best produced cast albums out there.

Actually I don't understand all the discussion about lightening up the production for the Broadway run. After all, it is not THAT dark a story. "temper, temper" may be a bit scary for very little children, but so what, they get scarier stuff every day on TV. I'd want to see it on Broadway as it is as well.

Umm--- Do you mean "Tuppence a bag"? Or is there some odd new lyric in the show? (Not that I blame you for not knowing. As far as the movie goes, it's well-known as a misinterpreted lyric.)

Poppins-a-bag is a play on words...I kind of expected people would understand that.
