I was looking to buy a recording of Porgy and Bess ( I know this is more opera than Broadway, but whatever.) I was wondering what the best recording would be. What is the most complete, best talent, and least expensive? Thanks for any help. :)

Here's some more discussion on it.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I've got three complete recordings and the later abridgement conducted by Lehman Engel. Of the complete recordings, my favorite is the 1970s Houston Grand Opera version which came to Broadway. The Glyndebourne recording conducted by Simon Rattlke is good, too, but John DeMain, who conducts the Houston production, knows the piece better than anyone alive. The Lehman Engel is also excellent but filled with cuts.
