I thought the cast was fantastic, and if they had been directed competently, I would have enjoyed the show. The combination of the omission of some of my favorite and (in my opinion) most crucial parts of the show was disappointing. I can see how someone unfamiliar with Porgy and Bess would enjoy the show, and that's fine, but P&B has been my favorite piece of music for years. I made my first trip to NYC specifically to hear it, and I was let down big time.
