"A movie musical in the style of Grease! and Hairspray about two girls whose paths cross at boarding school. They are both at different ends of the social spectrum."

Is one of the girls green?

The only thing that would make this exciting is if they were involved in jello wrestling.

this sounds like it would be awesome. i love parker posey AND cheno. when i think of parker posey in a musical, all i can think of is her singing "Teacher's Pet" in Waiting for Guffman....

ps: if you have that movie, make sure you check out her 'monologue' in the special features. its amazing.

What is this exactly?

Love parker Posey--her deleted Guffman monologue is the best thing ever put on film.

It could be fun. I love both Posey and Chenowith and Andrew Lippa is doing the lyrics.

It's a movie that's not going to be made. Northwestern did this on stage last Fall.

Well I wanted to clear up something about my first post. I love Parker Posey, Cheno, and Lippa, but I'm juts bot sure what to think about the premise.

The movie isn't happening. This has been on imdb for years.

Too bad if it's not getting made. Also--the premise is barely a few words long I don't know how you can get much from it.

As another poster alluded to, this is a ditched movie musical that was shelved almost three years ago.

The film's score was written by Andrew Lippa and was to star Posey and Chenoweth, but it has since been turned into a stage production instead, with it's debut being had at Northwestern several months ago featuring Carly Jibson ("Hairspray") in the cast.

The movie will no longer be made, but Lippa still hopes for the show to have future commercial prospects. It was apparently well recieved in Chicago.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

It's called Asphalt Beach, and it hasn't quite been canned I don't think. Andrew actually did a concert about a month ago featuring some songs from AB.

Old news

It was to be an indie movie musical entitled ASPHALT BEACH but instead they did it on the stage, sans Cheno and Posey.

There are no longer plans to do a film (at least THAT same film with Cheno/Posey). Last thing I heard while they were trying to do it was that they were looking for someone to replace either Cheno or Posey but I forget which one it was.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

in the style of Grease!

I liked the Grease movie. I don't know what style they're referring to? Pop type music? 40 year olds playing teen-agers?

considering that I would see ANYTHING Kristin Chenoweth is in (I saw R.V. and Pink Panther, haha), this sounds like a great idea to me!
