The pre-Broadway tryout of Frank Wildhorn's new musical WAITING FOR THE MOON has been nixed at North Carolina Theatre. I e-mailed the theatre to see what the official reasoning was, and they responded "The production was replaced with Chess due to script changes which caused more financial needs."
North Carolina Theatre does excellent productions. Really solid work. I'm very pleased I'll now have the opportunity to see CHESS, however a pre-Broadway engagement would have been very historic for us. Especially of a Frank Wildhorn piece.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
