The pre-Broadway tryout of Frank Wildhorn's new musical WAITING FOR THE MOON has been nixed at North Carolina Theatre. I e-mailed the theatre to see what the official reasoning was, and they responded "The production was replaced with Chess due to script changes which caused more financial needs."
North Carolina Theatre does excellent productions. Really solid work. I'm very pleased I'll now have the opportunity to see CHESS, however a pre-Broadway engagement would have been very historic for us. Especially of a Frank Wildhorn piece.
GOOD.

Was that the show about the Fitzgeralds?
Odd idea for a musical?

Odd idea, yes. But I think a good one.
They were very glamorous, showy people and, of course, very tragic. I think it'd make for a great musical. Maybe not a big power ballad-esque musical that Wildhorn is known for, but I think it could be quite exciting.
That is sad if this is true. This is an incredible show with I think Frank's best score. It did need work coming out of PA but that is sad that it cannot be done in the time frame, and cost, to get another production this summer. I, among many others, were looking forward to flying to NC to see the show. Oh well, I'll have to look for new summer plans
