Does anyone have any information or recordings of PRODIGAL by Dean Bryant and Mathew Frank? I am extremely interested in this musical, as I may be playing Zach/Kane at a professional theater here in Connecticut. The artistic director and I are in touch and I let him know that I am interested in being in his show, but I would love to know more about it and possibly hear some of the songs. Thanks in advance! Not sure if any of this helps but
Prodigal is the first show to be performed by an Australian Cast to come to Off-Broadway in March 2002 after a run at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 1999 and a production at the Chapel off Chapel in Melbourne in 2000.
Starting with the building of Salisbury Cathedral, the story sweeps through medieval London and travels through time, via the Slave Trade and Roaring Twenties to culminate in a modern redemption of 'The Prodigal Son'. A story of Greed and envy, lust and deceipt unfolds through the ages. A story of heartbreak as father, mother and girlfriend watch Jack leave his Cathedral workplace and travel to London with the Mountebank and his ne'er do well friends, before returning home ruined.
John, his elder brother, then tells his side of the tale set at the time of the Bristol slave trade in 1784.
There are no women mentioned in the original parable, but what about Jack's mother, sisters and girlfriend ? Elinor, Lily and Effie tell their story in the 1920's, a time of jazz, fun and post war sadness.
Following the interval, The Pigs come up with their version of events; a Jerry Springer type show where the family struggle to understand the true value of love and forgiveness, with no help from their swinish TV hosts.
Finally Jack and John's father tells his story, set in modern Salisbury. Will their brothers be reconciled?

Thanks, shizzo, but that is not the right story. You were right about it being the first Australian show to come to off-Broadway, but the synopsis you gave is from a different show. Thanks for trying to help, though! I appreciate it!
