Posted: 11/16/05 at 2:10pmWhat do you mean "it's the same only different from the cast album"? How can it be both?
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

And Starbucks will use the words 'large' and 'small', not pretentious crap like grande and tall.

The songs are (for the most part) the same, but it's more polished? different inflections? Not sure how to express it!! It's the same with any cast album vs movie soundtrack for me---the same, only different. Can anyone help me explain what I mean?

Posted: 11/16/05 at 2:23pmThat's cool---they may have cut "The King Of Broadway" from the movie, but it is on the cd. I adore Nathan Lane---he is a gas!

its a single disc running about 65 minutes or less.
Uma surprised me very much...she can carry a tune decently, but her voice is quite deep.

really?
well,i meant to ask this sometime,
from the original movie, and max says "ulla, go to work", then ulla turns on a record, and starts dancing to this beach/surfing music, and it is hilarious in my opinion
i was wondering if it is in the show/musical or not?
sorry, randomness
anyway, this will be ANOTHER cd i have to buy...wow!

Posted: 11/17/05 at 5:21pmThe cd is pretty descent. My friend pre-ordered it on amazon and let me listen to it. I was really quite surprised my self. Uma is pretty good, but I wish they would have gotten Cady to be Ulla instead.

The movie soundtrack has a much larger orchestra so the orchestrations have been "beefed" up. Gone are the full Overture (never used in the show but on the OCR), In Old Bavaria, the reprise of Opening night, and Where Did We go Right. In addition I Wanna Be a Producer, Along Came Bially and Springtime for Hitler are shortened.
On balance, they have added a short track called "You'll find your happiness in Rio" (which is a nothing), a strange version of Guten Tag Hop-Clop and a new song called There's Nothing Like a Show on Broadway.
Packaging: The Broadway cast has a synopsis and all the lyrics plus pictures. The soundtrack has more pictures but hardly any notes and no lyrics.
Generally the cast album plays better and you get more of a sense of the story.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
