Ok, gang, I somehow have been wrangled into being a co-props mistress for our church's production of My Fair Lady in early December. It's actually several local congregations of our denomination doing this together and a friend & I just got this assignment.
Anyhow, with $0 budget (I am sooo not kidding here) we've gotta beg/borrow most of the props. If any of you have done this production (or have great ideas) can you tell me how to handle the:
smudge pot fire:
dry ice and fabric/ribbon "flames" blown by a small fan? We're in Buffalo so there are no citrus orchards to "raid"...
alcohol burner:
(Higgins uses to teach Eliza how to speak properly.)
How does it work? What is a good substitute--and how do you get the flames to shoot out?
Recording device:
The scenery is being provided by a local company and they are also providing the big "horn" device but the director is describing something with 3 turntables, etc.
The rest is basic items but needs to be circa 1912...big black umbrellas, tea service and cups, books, telephone... Folks are gonna be soooo sick of hearing me push for items.
If any of you can help please post here or in a PM.
Desperately yours,
Beacon

In case anyone has a great idea...
We have a props meeting with the director on wednesday. I've googled several of the items to know what I am looking for...
but any "cheap/easy" ideas would be most appreciated!
