"Prymate" was an absolute joke. I attended the second preview, which was a Saturday matinee for $25, and there couldn't have been more than 100 people there. In fact, my seats in the second to last row of the mezzanine where upgraded to fourth row center in the orchestra.
The production, you could tell, was quickly thrown together, and the actors were under-rehearsed. James Naughton gave a rare bad performance, and Phyllis Frelich, so good in "COALG", was DOA. Andre DeShields was adequate, but then again, he was the only one not uttering Mark Medoff's laughable dialogue. Heather Thom was so bad she was funny.
This was the worst show I have EVER seen, and nothing could save it.

Posted: 2/1/05 at 2:06pmI know. For a show that only played 5 regular performances, there's a lot of interest.

Oh, boy...here we go again. I was probably the only person in the tri-state area who saw and liked the damn play. Yes, it was flawed, but I found it interesting and it made me think about some issues near to my heart (I have degrees in anthropology and nursing...).
Anyway... I just don't have the where-with-all to go through my defense again, but if you search on "Prymate", my original reactions are there.
I agree that this should NEVER have been brought to Broadway. I think it would have received a much different reaction off or off-off B'way.
Sigh...
