has anyone ever gotten a job handing out playbills or selling merchandise at a broadway theater? I'm going to school in Manhattan in a few weeks and it would be a perfect job that wouldnt get in the way of classes, anyone know how to go about doing this? Thanks Guys!

Posted: 1/14/04 at 9:43pmI can't answer your question specifically, but I think you have to be in some sort of union to be an usher. Or maybe that is just for working at the box office. But I'm not really that knowledgable on the subject and if its what you really would like to do I say you go for it!

Posted: 1/14/04 at 9:58pmSome of the non-profits do use volunteer ushers. I ushered at The Regard Evening at The Signature Theatre just last week. The Roundabout Theatre Company also uses volunteers and I know folks who ushered for Cabaret. Contact these companies or try to find or contact the house manager. LOTS of people apporach them, so don't be suprised if they don't need any volunteers in the near future. You may be able to put your name on a list for them to call when they need volunteers.

They're talking about being an usher -- you have to be a union member to be an usher. As for merchandise, you have to contact the merch company directly -- not all shows have the same merch company.
Last time I checked, the merch company for Chicago was hiring.... everyone can die of shock, but I actually don't know what company that is hahaha
