I was talking with a friend, and this question came up:

Which show's revival was produced on Broadway closest to either a previous revival or the original production? (not inlcuding like the ones that happen a year after the original)

Like The '87 revival of Cabaret was produced 11 years before the Roundabout one...

Well there have been plenty of return engagements of shows that were only a year or two after the original production closed and were technically considered revivals (West Side Story in 1960 after the original closed in 1959, Dreamgirls in 1987 after the original had closed in 1985, The Wiz in 1984 after the original closed in 1979).

Hello Dolly closed in 1970, but then had revivals/return engagements in 1975, 1978 and 1995.
