I'm just curious. Can you still student rush a show when that performance is sold out? Meaning, are there extra seats put aside for students or is it only available when there are several unsold seats on the day of?
It depends on the show's particular policy, but the answer is usually yes, they are put aside, unless for some reason they've taken rush away for a certain performance for some extenuating circumstance.... for example, the weekend of the Republican Convention, when the delegates bought out tickets to all of those shows.
As Emcee said, some shows are wonderful and will keep their student allocation, no matter how full they are, others will 'sacrifice' the student tickets to get more money. Really depends on what show you're looking at.

Actually, a lot of shows don't. If their policy says student rush is there "based on availability," that basically means they'll try to sell the tickets full-price first. I couldn't get rush tickets to Gem of the Ocean last week because of that.
has anyone ever gotten student rush tickets to the producers? if so, how are they, and what time do you have to get to the box office to get them?
Friends of mine rushed the Producers and they said that they had front row if I remember correctly.
Interesting that you mentioned the Producers, because I was going to add to what Emcee and QM touched on. When Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane came back the Rush was stopped because they knew people would spend over $100 for those seats.
I rememeber for the closing night of Aida, they continued doing the rush (although the show was completely sold out), whereas yesterday 42nd Street didn't do student rush and sold these seats at regular prices. Bastards!!!

How are front row seats at the St. James? Do you end up going deaf and craning your neck the whole time?
Friends said it was good, but I haven't sat there so I can't say for sure.
Plum, I had second row once and although the stage is massive, I had no problems with the seats. Pretty good.

better than The Palace?
Nothing could beat the front row of the Palace last summer, TGIF... but probably for different reasons
Yes, a LOT better than the Palace.

QM is being naughty.
No! I wasn't! I was being all innocent and didn't get your *waves hands* reference, hence I was so shocked about Emcee bending her knees all of a sudden. I'm innocent! *cries*

I have a Q? how much do student rush tickets usually cost?
say for Beauty and the Beast and Little Women?

Usually $25 I believe. Little Women is $30, though.
Some shows are $20. Depends.
www.talkinbroadway.com - click "on the boards," or playbill.com has a list of the rush policies, too.
TGIF, YOU MADE QM CRY! For shame. :-P
Anywhere between $20 and $30.
