Question about Cabaret

Hello all,
Recently I had my first experience with Cabaret with the recent Broadway revival, being too young to see it when it first opened and my parents refusing to take me to a non original cast closer to it closing.
I had a question about the end of the first act:
Is there any significance to the location of the swastika on the Emcee, or is it more like that is just a part of him that we haven't yet seen in the show. Thanks.
